There are numerous categories of slot machines in Europe with various levels of regulation and technical specification. The following session will provide a snapshot of the latest regulatory developments from a slot machine perspective.

Manufacturers are at the forefront of the introduction of new technologies within the gambling industry, with printed circuit boards now a thing of the past and server based gaming the new buzzword in the industry.  Yet even the most recent technical specification demand physical meters and pose severe restrictions on the updating of the games on the machine locally, let alone remotely.

This session will look to examine:

  • What new technologies are reshaping the slot machine industry?
  • Do slow moving regulations pose a restrain on the uptake of new technologies?
  • Does server based gaming represent a regulatory risk or is it a means for greater monitoring and control?
  • So you want to go digital? Practical guidance on how to prepare your company for the server based gaming revolution

Czechs spent a record €4.4bn on gambling last year with no indication of it slowing down. With the existing legislation no longer suiting the need of the gaming market or society, the  Ministry of Finance has recently opened  consultation in the first steps towards a comprehensive overhaul of gambling legislation due to be completed by the end of 2008.

This session will examine:

  • The latest on the consultation process
  • What are the proposed changes on the horizon
  • The future implications for machine manufactures

New legislation due to come into force in January 2009 means that Estonia is on the verge of completing a much anticipated modernisation of its gambling regulatory regime. The new law will overhaul Estonia’s taxation and machine compliance rules, as well as setting minimum establishment sizes and laying the foundations for remote gambling licensing.

This session will examine the following:

  • What are the possibilities for the technical standards which will accompany the new Gambling Act?
  • What other jurisdictions will Estonia seek to follow?
  • What opportunities will there be for manufacturers to enter the market?

Slot machines in Germany are regulated at the federal level, with the National Metrology Institute (PTB) charged with ensuring machines are compliant with certain criteria under national legislation. 

This session will examine the following:

  • The regulation of slot machines in Germany
  • An overview of the key provisions of the PTB technical guidelines under the Gaming Ordinance
  • A discussion of the changes brought in by version 4.0 of the PTB technical guidelines and how these changes will affect the manufacture of new machines
